TEMPLE FOUNDATION
Tributes
Tribute Funds
Holy Blossom Temple’s tribute
donations allow you to honour or memorialize family and friends.
Donations can be made to the Holy Blossom Temple Foundation
in support of Temple priorities, or to one of the funds
listed below. The Foundation also welcomes the establishment
of named funds. All tributes are recognized in the Holy
Blossom Temple
Bulletin.
Tribute cards
start at $20 and VISA, MasterCard, cheque or cash are
accepted. All donations are tax deductible. There are many
ways to order tribute cards: completing a donation form
on-line, calling the Foundation at
(416) 789-3291, ext. 265 or
visiting the Foundation office at the Temple.

General Funds
- Accessibility: This fund
finances projects that provide Temple members with special needs access
to the Temple.
- Atid: Established in honour of
the installation of Rabbi John Moscowitz as Holy Blossom Temple’s 12th
Senior Rabbi, this fund helps us to plan for the Temple’s future,
with consideration given to Torah (study), Avodah
(worship), and Gemilut Chasadim (deeds of social
responsibility) and the strengthening relationship between the physical space and the
building of a religious community.
- Cantor’s Music:
Contributions to this fund are
used at the discretion of the
Cantor for a variety of social support
and charitable purposes.
- Floral: Contributions to the
Floral fund are used to buy flowers to beautify the Sanctuary and
the Youth Chapel for Shabbat, Festivals and the High Holy
Days.
- Holy Blossom Temple Foundation:
The Foundation Fund was created to ensure the continuing
strength and vitality of the Temple. Supporting the Foundation secures Holy
Blossom’s future.
- Israel Study: Established on
the occasion of Rabbi John Moscowitz’s 10th anniversary
at Holy Blossom, this fund supports Temple members studying at an ulpan (intensive Hebrew immersion course) or in a program in
Israel, with special preference given to young adults.
- Library Book: A book for the
Sisterhood Library will be inscribed for a minimum donation of $36.
Donations of less than $36 will go towards buying library books.
- The Dow and Fredzia Marmur Program
for Educational Excellence: Inaugurated in 2000 on the occasion
of Rabbi Dow Marmur’s retirement as Holy Blossom Temple’s Senior
Rabbi, this fund strengthens the links between the School and
synagogue, builds a faculty committed to our vision, and develops an
educational ethos that has Jewish learning as Judaism’s highest
value. Initiatives have included professional development for
teachers, special curricula and the integration of Hebrew and
religious studies through a team-teaching approach.
-
Minsk Project: This fund supports our sister congregation in
Minsk, Belarus and other congregations in the Former Soviet Union.
Congregational visits provide much-needed medical, educational and
religious materials.
- Musical Legacy: Established on
the occasion of Cantor Benjamin Z. Maissner’s 20th
anniversary at Holy Blossom, this fund is used to record a series of
CDs featuring Festival melodies and other musical treasures of the
cantorial repertoire.
-
Out of the Cold: As part of a coalition of religious and
charitable organizations in the Toronto area, Holy Blossom provides
food, clothing and shelter to the homeless and hungry among us every
Thursday night between November and April each year.
- Plaut Manor: Named for Rabbi
W. Gunther Plaut and his wife Elizabeth Plaut, Plaut Manor shelters
abused women, single-parent families, seniors, people with
developmental disabilities and lower-income working families. This
fund allows us to run many programs at Plaut Manor, including an
after-school program. Plaut Manor is an affordable, 97-unit
apartment building founded by and affiliated with Holy Blossom
Temple.
- Prayer Book: A prayer book
will be inscribed for a minimum donation of $36. Donations of less
than $36 will go toward buying prayer books.
- Project Tikvah:
This fund supports Temple educational programs for
Religious School students with special learning needs.
Programs include one-on-one tutors,
specialized learning materials and related equipment.
- Rabbis’ Discretionary: These
funds — one for each of our Rabbis — are used at the discretion of
the Rabbis for a variety of social support and charitable purposes.
- Lorraine Sandler Tribute
Endowment: Established as a tribute to Lorraine Sandler on her
retirement as principal of
the Holy Blossom Temple
Pre-School, this fund provides
additional support, teacher training and special equipment for
Pre-School children with special needs.
- Shacharit Breakfast:
Each day, the Temple hosts a bagel breakfast after the morning Worship
services. Donations to this fund may be for any occasion. We
especially encourage donations when remembering a loved one.
- Torah/Haftarah Commentary: The
Torah Commentary and Haftarah Commentary each will
be inscribed for a minimum donation of $72. Donations of less than
$72 will go towards buying these commentaries.
- Youth Awards: The Religious or
Day School experience is enhanced through camp scholarships,
enabling young Temple members to attend
Camp
George; Israel scholarships for Confirmation graduates; and the
funding of special class trips to places of Jewish interest.
