Holy Blossom Temple, established in 1856, is one
of the oldest synagogues in Canada. It has been affiliated with the
Reform movement since 1920 and is the largest Reform congregation in
the country.
With such an extensive and diverse membership, Holy Blossom is many
things to many people. But our basic purpose is to be a vibrant centre
of Jewish life. To achieve that goal we strive to uphold the three
fundamental principles of Judaism: study (Torah), worship (avodah),
and good deeds (gemilut hasadim).
As Reform Jews, we are an integral part of the Canadian
Council for Reform Judaism (CCRJ), the Union for Reform
Judaism (URJ) and the World
Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ). We actively recognize our
responsibility to deal with issues that concern both the Jewish as well
as general community through our affiliation with Jewish and non-Jewish
organizations in Canada.
- While our tradition provides us with a rich
heritage, embracing new congregants ensures that we will be here for
future generations. You and your family, as prospective members, are
important to us: You are our future.
Temple membership offers you the opportunity to be
part of a vibrant, committed community of Jews a community
engaged in a continuous, open-minded process of religious exploration.
As a member you can participate in regular worship services with
others. From preschool to confirmation, your children can acquire the
skills and education they need to live as Jews in the modern world. The
adult members of your family can take advantage of many stimulating
lectures and educational programs on Jewish themes. As a Temple member,
you also have the chance to make a difference, both within the
congregation and community at large. Share your skills with others as a
volunteer on one of our many committees and connect with the people who
make Holy Blossom the warm and caring place that it is.
